Written Work

The following is a brief overview of data and information pertaining to my written work. This is intended primarily as a reference for potential publishers. From this material you might gain some insight as to whether the work could be of interest to you.

The files, should you choose to open them, are relatively large (several megabytes each), since they also contain illustrations. This material is copyrighted, but you are invited to open, store and print it for your own use, or to share with friends if you conclude the work merits such attention. The files are in PDF format (requires Abobe Acrobat). Click on the links below.

It is my hope that these “books” will be published eventually in a more suitable format. In the meantime, we shall work with what we have. Should you decide to read any or all of the work, I encourage you to offer feedback that you consider relevant.

Synopsis:
What is the difference between the dream state and the waking world of the mundane? Or is there one? What is the difference between memory and immediate experiential reality? Or is there one? Once you have read this sentence, it will become a memory. You can verify it, of course, by reading it again. What, then, is the difference between memories that can be verified and those that cannot? Or is there one? Might the difference simply be one of point of view and frame of reference? We are conditioned to believe that proof is a requisite to reality. Or is it? What of those memories that are too distant or too deep to corroborate? Do we dismiss them as fantasies, or might they lay some claim to validity? Is it possible that they are as much a part of us as the memories of our early childhood? Is time such a boundary, one that we cannot cross?

The Deep Memory series, presented in three inter-related books, endeavors to address these questions. The perspective is personal and intimate. It is a memoir of sorts, though the journey traverses diverse times and places. In the principal story lines of the first two books, these include ancient Egypt during the New Kingdom and Celtic Britain at the dawn of the Roman era. The third book is more overtly autobiographical, but it is interleaved with a sub-story of a more esoteric nature that is, ultimately, the root of the previous story lines.

This work is also a spiritual journey, if I may be so bold as too invoke a much abused word. It is not spiritual in a dogmatic, or even religious, way. It is a celebration of life, and it is a recognition that the sacred is in all life, as well as in the living of it. It puts forth the view that, if we are able to accept this and treat our fellows with respect and compassion, we may aspire to live together as one community and one kindred.

Author Bio:
Life is a gift. It should not be disdained or squandered frivolously. So I ask myself the questions, "What do I do with it?" and, "What next?" The questions persist. Accordingly, my life path has taken many turns. If there is a signature characteristic that governs my decisions, it is a fairly simple one. I see myself as a maker. I mean this quite literally, as well as metaphorically.

It is my mission, my job and my passion to make things. This is motivated by loving care for my fellow beings and by a strong desire to share. I strive to express this in the things that I make. To achieve it, I have explored and utilized many media: paint, ink, stone, wood, glass, living landscapes and, most recently, the written word. The medium is simply the vehicle; I trust my inner voice to find the road.
